내일을 위한 시간, 짧은 생각

내일을 위한 시간 Two Days, One Night (2014, 장 피에르 다르덴 & 뤽 다르덴)

영화는 연대하는 것이 개인에게 이익이 되지 않는 시스템 속에서 자신의 복직을 위해 다른 구성원들의 연대를 이끌어내야만 하는 상황에 처한 한 노동자의 이야기이다. 본인의 생존이 다수결로 결정될 도덕 문제로 전락했음을 자신도 알고 있는데다 우울증 전력까지 있는 산드라가 존엄을 유지하며 싸움을 계속하는 것은 결코 쉬운 일이 아니다. 16명의 동료를 만나러 다니며 산드라는 다양한 갈등과 선택의 순간을 목격하고 이는 고스란히 산드라에게 때로는 긍정적으로 때로는 부정적으로 전이된다. 단조롭지 않을까 싶었던 이 과정은 예상 외로 연대만큼이나 우울과 결혼과 존엄에 대한 묵직한 이야기로 채워져 있다. 결과적으로 산드라는 여럿의 삶을 살린 기적적인 연대를 이루어내나, 자신 그리고 자신과 연대한 동료 노동자들의 존엄을 잃지 않는 선택은 처음부터 하나뿐이었던 듯하다. 단칼에 결단을 내리고 그 어느 때보다 가볍게 걸어가는 산드라의 뒷모습은 마치 나에게 너는 안녕하느냐고 묻는 것만 같다.
